Indy Eleven Sings to 2-2 Draw After Dramatic Finish Against Birmingham Legion FC

Indy Eleven found a little late-night magic Saturday at Carroll Stadium.

Dylan Sing scored in the final minute of stoppage time as the Boys in Blue rallied to earn a dramatic 2-2 draw against Birmingham Legion FC in USL Championship action.

Indy struck first in the 20th minute. Defender Joe Hafferty collected an attempted Birmingham clearance outside the penalty area, created space and fired a long-range effort that took a deflection before finding the net. It was Hafferty’s first goal for Indy Eleven since joining the club on loan from Lexington SC.

Birmingham answered before halftime.

Former Indy Eleven attacker Tyler Pasher leveled the match in the 40th minute, finishing a chance created by Gevork Diarbian to send the teams into halftime tied at one.

The Legion then grabbed the lead in the 66th minute when Romario Williams scored off an assist from Peter-Lee Vassell, putting Birmingham in front 2-1.

Indy continued to push for an equalizer and appeared to find it multiple times, but three potential tying goals were wiped away — one for offside and two following foul calls.

The Boys in Blue finally broke through deep into stoppage time.

Captain Aodhan Quinn sent a long ball into the penalty area in the 98th minute. After the ball fell to Bruno Rendón, Rendón created space and ripped a shot from a difficult angle that struck the far post.

Sing was in the right place at exactly the right time.

The substitute raced onto the rebound and knocked it into the net with his right knee, delivering the equalizer with virtually no time remaining. It was Sing’s third goal of the season.

Sing and Charlie Sharp both entered the match in the 76th minute and helped provide an offensive spark during Indy’s late push.

Indy finished the night with 18 shots, nine shots on goal, nine corner kicks and 27 crosses, consistently applying pressure to the Birmingham defense.

The draw continued Indy’s impressive run at Carroll Stadium. The Boys in Blue are now 10-1-3 over their last 14 USL Championship home matches and 7-1-3 at home this season.

Indy Eleven moves to 8-8-5 with 29 points and remains seventh in the USL Championship Eastern Conference with nine regular-season matches remaining. The top eight clubs qualify for the postseason.

Indy will now hit the road to face New Mexico United on Friday at 9:30 p.m. Eastern.
