FC Cincinnati–D.C. United Match Postponed After Severe Weather in Cincinnati

FC Cincinnati will have to wait a little longer to get back on the field.

Saturday night’s Major League Soccer match between FC Cincinnati and D.C. United at TQL Stadium was postponed after severe weather and deteriorating field conditions prevented the match from being played.

The Eastern Conference matchup was originally scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, but inclement weather in the Cincinnati area forced the start to be delayed.

MLS initially announced plans for a 9:31 p.m. kickoff, weather permitting, but another round of inclement weather prevented the teams from taking the field.

After a delay lasting more than two hours and 45 minutes, the decision was ultimately made to postpone the match because of the condition of the pitch and concerns over player safety.

The match will be rescheduled for a later date.

The postponement means Cincinnati remains 8-7-7 with 31 points in MLS play.

The Orange and Blue were looking to bounce back following a difficult trip to Nashville last weekend. FC Cincinnati suffered a 4-0 loss to Nashville SC at GEODIS Park on August 29.

Saturday’s scheduled contest was also set to be the first of two regular-season meetings between Cincinnati and D.C. United this year. The clubs are scheduled to meet again on October 24 in Washington.

For supporters holding tickets to Saturday’s postponed match, FC Cincinnati announced that those tickets will be reissued for the rescheduled contest.

The postponement also creates another scheduling issue for an already busy stretch of the season.

FC Cincinnati is scheduled to return to action Wednesday, September 9, when the Orange and Blue travel to face the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park.

Cincinnati then returns to TQL Stadium on Saturday, September 12, to host Charlotte FC.

A new date for the FC Cincinnati-D.C. United match will be announced later.
