Boys Soccer Recap from Tuesday
Tuesday night brought another packed night of Indiana high school boys soccer, with ranked teams tested, rivalry games decided and several programs putting up big offensive numbers across Classes 3A, 2A and 1A.
Using this week’s Indiana Soccer Coaches Association rankings, there were plenty of results worth watching across the state.
Class 3A
#8 Fishers 1, #2 Hamilton Southeastern 0
One of the biggest results of the night came in Hamilton County.
No. 8 Fishers handed No. 2 Hamilton Southeastern its first loss of the season with a 1-0 victory.
The Tigers improved to 6-1-1, while HSE fell to 5-1-3.
With two Top-10 teams meeting, the result could have an impact when the next ISCA rankings are released.
Westfield 3, #7 Noblesville 0
Another major result came from the Hoosier Crossroads Conference.
Westfield shut out No. 7 Noblesville, 3-0.
The result gives Westfield a statement victory against one of the state’s Top-10 teams and adds another significant result to a loaded HCC race.
#5 Zionsville 2, Franklin Central 0
Fifth-ranked Zionsville took care of business with a 2-0 victory over Franklin Central.
The Eagles improved to 6-1-1 and added another clean sheet to their résumé.
#11 Brownsburg 2, Avon 1
No. 11 Brownsburg earned bragging rights with a 2-1 victory over Avon.
The Bulldogs picked up another important HCC victory in what continues to be one of the deepest soccer conferences in Indiana.
#14 Carmel 1, #17 Lawrence North 0
Carmel came away with a ranked victory, edging No. 17 Lawrence North 1-0.
The No. 14 Greyhounds kept Lawrence North off the scoreboard in another matchup that could influence next week’s rankings.
North Central 1, #18 Lawrence Central 0
North Central produced one of Tuesday’s upsets, knocking off No. 18 Lawrence Central, 1-0.
#19 Harrison 2, Lafayette Jefferson 0
Harrison recorded a clean sheet against Lafayette Jefferson, winning 2-0.
#20 Columbus North vs. Bloomington North
No. 20 Columbus North was also matched against Bloomington North as part of Tuesday’s slate.
Other Notable 3A Results
Cathedral 3, Brebeuf Jesuit 0
Cathedral blanked 13th-ranked Class 2A Brebeuf Jesuit, 3-0.
Greenfield-Central 7, Delta 1
Greenfield-Central continued its strong start with an offensive explosion, putting seven goals on the board against Delta.
Columbus East 7, Bedford North Lawrence 1
Columbus East also found the net seven times in a convincing victory.
Elkhart 4, South Bend Riley 0
Elkhart recorded a four-goal clean sheet.
Warren Central 1, Center Grove 0
Warren Central picked up a quality 1-0 victory against Center Grove.
Class 2A
#3 Park Tudor 3, #17 Bishop Chatard 2
One of the night’s best ranked matchups came in Indianapolis.
No. 3 Park Tudor survived No. 17 Bishop Chatard, 3-2.
The Panthers picked up an important victory while Chatard pushed one of Class 2A’s top three teams all the way to the final whistle.
#1 Guerin Catholic 1, Roncalli 0
Top-ranked Guerin Catholic remained on track with a 1-0 victory over Roncalli.
The Golden Eagles entered the week as the No. 1 team in the ISCA Class 2A poll and added another shutout victory.
#2 Mishawaka Marian 1, #14 South Bend Saint Joseph 0
Second-ranked Mishawaka Marian also survived a ranked opponent.
The Knights edged No. 14 South Bend Saint Joseph, 1-0, in another important northern Indiana result.
#6 Leo 6, East Noble 1
Sixth-ranked Leo had no trouble finding offense.
The Lions rolled past East Noble 6-1, putting together one of the biggest performances of the night among ranked Class 2A programs.
Fort Wayne South Side 2, #9 Bishop Luers 1
Fort Wayne South Side earned a notable cross-class victory, defeating No. 9 Bishop Luers, 2-1.
#10 Heritage Hills 5, #14 1A Tell City 1
Heritage Hills won a battle between ranked programs from different classes.
The No. 10 Patriots defeated Class 1A No. 14 Tell City 5-1.
Washington 7, #8 1A Forest Park 0
Washington delivered one of the night’s biggest statements.
The No. 16 Hatchets rolled past Class 1A No. 8 Forest Park, 7-0.
A seven-goal shutout against a Top-10 opponent is one of the results that should get plenty of attention when the next ISCA poll is released.
Other Class 2A Results
Charlestown vs. Silver Creek featured No. 18 Charlestown.
Concordia Lutheran vs. Bishop Dwenger put No. 19 Concordia Lutheran against a quality Fort Wayne opponent.
Bremen vs. Trinity Greenlawn featured No. 20 Bremen.
Class 1A
#11 White River Valley 7, Bloomfield 0
White River Valley continued to roll.
The No. 11 Wolverines defeated Bloomfield, 7-0, in a Greene County matchup.
WRV improved to 6-2 and added another dominant victory to its recent run.
#12 Bethesda Christian 8, Western Boone 0
Bethesda Christian turned in one of Tuesday’s biggest offensive performances.
The No. 12 Patriots rolled to an 8-0 victory over Western Boone.
#5 Westview 6, Eastside 0
Fifth-ranked Westview continued its strong season with a 6-0 shutout of Eastside.
It was another convincing result for one of the highest-ranked teams in Class 1A.
Barr-Reeve 7, Shoals 0
Barr-Reeve also put seven goals on the board, defeating Shoals 7-0.
#8 Forest Park 0, #16 2A Washington 7
Forest Park suffered one of the more surprising results among ranked 1A programs.
The No. 8 Rangers were shut out by Class 2A No. 16 Washington, 7-0.
#14 Tell City 1, #10 2A Heritage Hills 5
Tell City also ran into a highly ranked Class 2A opponent, falling to Heritage Hills 5-1.
Other Notable 1A Results
Boone Grove defeated DeMotte Christian 6-0, while Horizon Christian rolled past Traders Point Christian 7-0.
Covington also had a big offensive night, defeating South Vermillion 7-2.
Tuesday Night’s Biggest Results
If there is one theme from Tuesday, it’s that being ranked offered no guarantees.
No. 8 Fishers knocking off No. 2 Hamilton Southeastern headlines the Class 3A results.
Westfield’s 3-0 shutout of No. 7 Noblesville was another result that should attract the attention of ISCA voters.
In Class 2A, No. 3 Park Tudor survived No. 17 Bishop Chatard, 3-2, while top-ranked Guerin Catholic and second-ranked Mishawaka Marian each earned 1-0 victories.
Washington may have produced the night’s biggest statement across the smaller classes. The No. 16 team in Class 2A defeated Class 1A No. 8 Forest Park, 7-0.
Class 1A also featured dominant performances from No. 5 Westview, No. 11 White River Valley and No. 12 Bethesda Christian, with all three winning by at least six goals.
Tuesday’s results could create some movement when the next Indiana Soccer Coaches Association poll is released.
And with conference races heating up across Indiana, the separation between contenders and pretenders is beginning to become a little clearer.
