Chicago Fire Battles Inter Miami to 1-1 Draw at Soldier Field

Chicago Fire FC continued its unbeaten run Wednesday night, battling Inter Miami CF to a 1-1 draw in front of a massive crowd at Soldier Field.

Chicago wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, with Robert Lewandowski striking in the ninth minute.

The Polish star finished from inside the penalty area to give the Fire an early 1-0 advantage. It was Lewandowski’s sixth goal of the MLS season as his strong start in Chicago continued.

The Fire carried the one-goal advantage into halftime, but Miami responded almost immediately after the break.

Casemiro found the equalizer in the 48th minute, scoring with a header following a corner kick to make it 1-1.

From there, Miami applied significant pressure looking for the go-ahead goal, but Chicago goalkeeper Chris Brady and the Fire defense stood firm.

Brady produced several important stops as Chicago kept Lionel Messi and a talented Miami attack from finding a second goal.

Neither side could break the deadlock over the remainder of the match, leaving the Eastern Conference contenders to split the points.

The draw extends Chicago’s MLS unbeaten streak to seven matches. The Fire entered Wednesday having gone unbeaten in six straight league contests, their longest such run since 2017.

Chicago moves to 11-6-6 with 39 points, while Inter Miami moves to 12-4-8 with 44 points.

Wednesday was also a historic night at Soldier Field. A crowd of 63,094 watched the matchup, setting a new Chicago Fire attendance record.

The Fire now remain at home for another Eastern Conference matchup, hosting the New England Revolution on Sunday, September 13.
