Indiana Soccer Preview for September 11

Friday has a light slate on the high school side for both boys and girls soccer.

Boys HS Soccer

The headliner is an intriguing 3A ranked matchup involving No. 14 Carmel and No. 20 Columbus North. Carmel enters at 3-2-2, while Columbus North is unbeaten at 4-0-3. The Bull Dogs have been one of the tougher teams in the state to put away, while Carmel gets another opportunity to strengthen its résumé against a ranked opponent. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Columbus.

There is also a good small-school matchup with No. 19 Rising Sun traveling to Jac-Cen-Del at 5 p.m. Rising Sun sits at 5-1-2 and is currently ranked 19th in the ISCA Class 1A poll.

Elsewhere, Liberty Christian visits Anderson Prep Academy at 7 p.m. in a matchup between teams that have combined for nine victories, while Seton Catholic travels to Providence Cristo Rey at 6 p.m. Other games include Washington Township at Victory Christian Academy, Community Baptist Christian at Suburban Christian, Crosspointe Christian Academy at Indiana Christian Academy, Traders Point Christian at Colonial Christian, Seven Oaks Classical at Tabernacle Christian, Daleville at Horizon Christian and KIPP Legacy at Crispus Attucks.

Girls HS Soccer

Only 1 girls soccer matchup is on the docket today. Hebron will travel to Kouts. That is a 5:30 PM ET / 4:30 PM CT start.

College Men’s Soccer

#5 Indiana @ Michigan

The biggest match of the night takes us to Ann Arbor, where Indiana opens Big Ten play against Michigan at 7 p.m. Eastern. The Hoosiers enter the conference opener 5-0-1 and unbeaten through their first six matches. Indiana is coming off consecutive victories and now gets its first Big Ten test on the road. After struggling once conference play arrived a year ago, this is an early opportunity for Todd Yeagley’s club to establish itself in the league race.

Evansville @ Lindenwood

Evansville heads west to face Lindenwood in St. Charles, Missouri. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central on ESPN+. The Purple Aces are looking to bounce back after Tuesday’s narrow 1-0 loss to No. 21 Louisville, a match that remained scoreless until the Cardinals converted a free kick in the 81st minute.

Lindenwood enters 3-1-1 and presents a legitimate attacking challenge. Fifth-year forward Luca Bartoni already has five goals, scoring in four of the Lions’ first five matches. Lindenwood also owns a 2-1-1 advantage in the all-time series with Evansville and beat the Aces 1-0 last season.

Professional Women’s Soccer

Gotham City @ Racing Louisville

Racing Louisville FC is back home tonight for a big NWSL matchup against league-leading Gotham FC at Lynn Family Stadium.

Racing enters the night at 7-14-2 with 23 points and is looking to snap a three-match losing streak. Louisville fell 2-nil to Angel City last weekend and now sits 11 points below the final playoff position with seven matches remaining.

Despite the recent slide, Racing has been dangerous offensively. Louisville has scored 15 goals over its last seven matches, the second-most in the NWSL during that stretch.

The challenge tonight is a Gotham side sitting atop the NWSL table at 13-4-6 with 45 points. Gotham has been outstanding defensively, allowing only 17 goals through 23 matches. But the league leaders have hit a rough patch of their own, going winless in three straight after a 3-nil loss to Denver last weekend.

Keep an eye on newcomer Jordan Fusco for Louisville. Racing acquired the midfielder on loan from San Diego earlier this week, and she could make her club debut tonight.

Louisville has also played Gotham well at Lynn Family Stadium, winning two of the last three meetings in Louisville. The all-time series is dead even with three wins apiece and seven draws.

One lineup note: Racing will be without Savannah DeMelo due to illness, while Macey Hodge is suspended. Gotham lists Rose Lavelle as questionable with a head injury.
