Bethel Women Battle Holy Cross to Scoreless Draw

Bethel University controlled much of the attacking play Saturday afternoon but couldn’t find the finishing touch, as the Pilots and Holy Cross College battled to a 0-0 draw at Alumni Stadium.

Bethel entered the match coming off a 1-0 victory over Cornerstone and carried that momentum into Saturday’s contest. The Pilots generated 12 shots, putting six on goal, while limiting Holy Cross to seven shots and only two attempts on target.

Both goalkeepers were up to the challenge. Isabella Ferreira made two saves for Bethel to secure her second consecutive clean sheet, while Holy Cross goalkeeper J. Juarez turned away four shots to keep the Pilots off the scoreboard.

Bethel also held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks, including a late opportunity when Annalise Jung delivered a corner in the 90th minute, but the Pilots were unable to produce a game-winning goal.

The result moves Bethel to 4-2-2 on the season, while Holy Cross moves to 1-3-1. It’s the second scoreless draw of the season for Bethel, which also played Lawrence Tech to a 0-0 result on August 28.  More importantly, the Pilots’ defense has now gone 180 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal, following Wednesday’s shutout of Cornerstone.

Bethel returns home Wednesday, September 16, when the Pilots host Madonna University at Morey Field
