Lady Bulldogs Close Out Non-Conference Season Defeating Central Michigan

Butler women’s soccer closed out its nonconference home slate in impressive fashion Sunday afternoon, shutting out Central Michigan, 3-0, at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl.
The Bulldogs broke through just before halftime. Alyssa Carlson scored in the 43rd minute, putting Butler in front 1-0 with her second goal of the season. The advantage held into the break.
Butler wasted little time adding to the lead after halftime. In the 52nd minute, Sarah Monnin found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Riley Gumm picked up the assist, giving the Bulldogs some breathing room at 2-0.
Just seven minutes later, Lola Pepper put the match away. Pepper scored in the 59th minute, collecting her second goal of the year and stretching Butler’s advantage to 3-0.
The Bulldogs controlled much of the afternoon, finishing with an 18-6 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. Butler also generated six corner kicks while allowing only two.
Goalkeeper Addison Ash made two saves as the Bulldogs recorded their second consecutive shutout. Butler has now outscored its opponents 7-0 over its last two matches, following Thursday’s 4-0 victory over IU Indianapolis.
The victory improves Butler to 4-2-1 and gives the Bulldogs their third consecutive win after victories over St. Thomas, IU Indy and Central Michigan.
Butler returns to action Saturday, September 19, hosting Western Illinois at 2 p.m.
