UIndy Falls to UMSL in GLVC Women’s Soccer Action

Missouri-St. Louis used goals on both sides of halftime to pull away from UIndy, handing the Greyhounds a 5-1 loss Wednesday afternoon at Key Stadium.
The Tritons improved to 4-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in GLVC play, while UIndy dropped to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
UMSL broke through in the 36th minute when Taylor Martin scored her first goal of the season. The visitors doubled the advantage at the 45-minute mark when Ella Hickam finished a chance assisted by Ella Anselm, sending the Tritons into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
UMSL wasted little time extending the margin after the break. Olivia Lautz scored at 46:18 before Devin Ellis made it 4-0 in the 57th minute off an assist from Martin. Anselm added the Tritons’ fifth goal at 78:14.
UIndy avoided the shutout in the closing minutes. Mia Bajic scored her first goal of the season at 85:12 to produce the final 5-1 margin.
The Tritons controlled much of the afternoon statistically, outshooting UIndy 31-7 and putting 13 shots on goal compared with five for the Greyhounds. UMSL also held a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
UIndy’s goalkeeper corps was forced into eight saves, including six in the opening half. UMSL made four saves.
The loss halted the momentum UIndy had generated with Saturday’s 1-0 victory over William Jewell. The Greyhounds will now look to regroup after splitting their two-game homestand.
