UIndy Blanks UMSL, 2-0, for Second Straight GLVC Victory

UIndy men’s soccer continued its strong run at home Wednesday, scoring once in each half to defeat Missouri-St. Louis 2-0 at Key Stadium.

The victory improved the Greyhounds to 3-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in GLVC play, while UMSL fell to 2-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the conference. UIndy has now won back-to-back conference matches after defeating William Jewell 2-1 on Saturday.

Joey Longo put the Greyhounds in front in the 21st minute. Alejandro Zuniga supplied the assist as Longo finished at 20:05, giving him his fourth goal of the season and sending UIndy into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

The Greyhounds didn’t wait long after halftime to double the margin. At 51:29, Shayne Abrams scored his second goal of the season, again off an assist from Zuniga. It was Abrams’ second goal in as many home matches after scoring against William Jewell.

UIndy also delivered the clean sheet defensively. UMSL managed nine shots, but only three were on target. The Greyhounds’ goalkeeper stopped all three to preserve the shutout.

UIndy finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots and put five attempts on goal. UMSL goalkeeper made three saves. Interestingly, the Tritons held a 3-0 edge in corner kicks, while each team was whistled for seven fouls. There were no cards issued in the match.

The result gives UIndy its third victory of the season and keeps the Greyhounds unbeaten at Key Stadium. Their first two home victories came against Lake Erie and William Jewell.

UIndy returns to GLVC action Saturday, Sept. 19, at Drury in Springfield, Missouri.
