Wabash Blanks Anderson, 2-0, to Improve to 7-1

Wabash College bounced back from its first loss of the season with a strong defensive performance Wednesday night, defeating Anderson University 2-0 at Fridley Field.

The Little Giants improved to 7-1-0, while Anderson fell to 1-5-0. Wabash entered the match after a 2-1 loss to Muskingum on Sunday snapped its season-opening six-match winning streak.

Wabash controlled much of the opening half but had to wait until the final minute before breaking through. Gavin Glackman scored at 44:14, with Ethan Simmons providing the assist, giving the Little Giants a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The lead doubled shortly after the restart. Bryce Kinnaman struck unassisted at 51:45, putting Wabash ahead 2-0 and giving the Little Giants some breathing room.

From there, the Wabash defense took care of the rest. Anderson managed only two shots in the entire match and did not record a shot in the second half. Little Giants goalkeeper Rafael Cordova made one save to record the shutout.

Wabash finished with an 8-2 advantage in shots and put six attempts on goal. Anderson goalkeeper Braydon Kennedy made four saves.

The Little Giants also controlled the set-piece opportunities, earning six corner kicks to Anderson’s one. Wabash committed 12 fouls compared with nine for the Ravens.

The victory gets Wabash immediately back on track after Sunday’s loss and gives the Little Giants seven wins through their first eight matches. Wabash returns home Saturday, Sept. 19, to face Augustana College at Fischer Field.
