Indiana State, Eastern Illinois Battle to Scoreless Draw

Indiana State University and Eastern Illinois University battled to a 0-0 draw Thursday afternoon, August 27, at Lakeside Field in Charleston, Illinois. The result moved Indiana State to 3-1-1 on the season, while Eastern Illinois moved to 1-1-2.

Neither side was able to break through over the full 90 minutes, but Indiana State generated the stronger overall attacking numbers. The Sycamores finished with a 9-7 advantage in shots and put four attempts on goal compared with three for Eastern Illinois. Indiana State also held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Eastern Illinois goalkeeper Ella Kratochvil helped preserve the shutout with four saves, including stops against Meagyn Riffle and Ashlyn Cohen during the opening half and Quinn Urquhart early in the second half. Indiana State goalkeeper Sofie Zoëga Hansen answered with a clean sheet of her own, making three saves over 90 minutes.

Indiana State’s best opportunities came from Meagyn Riffle, Quinn Urquhart, Ashlyn Cohen and Kaitlynn Long, who each recorded a shot on goal. Tori Angelo led the Sycamores with three total shots. Eastern Illinois received three shots from Alex Tetteh, while Casey Kittridge and Amelia Mundo also put attempts on frame.

The match was physical at times, with Eastern Illinois committing 13 fouls compared with nine for Indiana State. Indiana State’s Emely Lopez and Eastern Illinois’ Hannah Hickman were each shown yellow cards just after the 31-minute mark.

The draw gives Indiana State its fourth result in five matches to begin the 2026 campaign. The Sycamores will continue their road trip Sunday, August 30, at Austin Peay.
