Indiana Blanks Butler 1-0 Behind McHenry Goal

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — No. 14 Indiana remained perfect on the young season Thursday night, defeating in-state opponent Butler 1-0 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Hoosiers finally broke through in the 62nd minute. Defender Nick McHenry scored at 61:43, finishing with his right foot off an assist from Alex Matthews to give Indiana the 1-0 advantage. That proved to be all the scoring Indiana needed.

The final score didn’t fully reflect the Hoosiers’ dominance. Indiana outshot Butler by a staggering 33-2 margin and put 15 shots on goal. Butler did not record a shot on goal.
Butler goalkeeper Brooks Boersma kept the Bulldogs within striking distance with an impressive 14-save performance, allowing only McHenry’s second-half goal.

Indiana goalkeeper Michal Mroz did not need to make a save while recording the clean sheet.
The Hoosiers also controlled the set-piece opportunities, finishing with a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks. Indiana generated 19 shots and nine corners in the first half alone.

Oliver Moller-Jensen was particularly active in the Indiana attack, taking a match-high 11 shots, including four on goal. Charlie Heuer added seven shots with three on target, while Easton Bogard put three of his four attempts on goal.

Indiana nearly added another goal late in the match, but an apparent score was reviewed by VAR in the 89th minute and did not stand.

The victory moves Indiana to 3-0-0 to begin the 2026 season. The Hoosiers have now won four of their last five meetings with Butler and are unbeaten in their last five against the Bulldogs. Indiana entered Thursday leading the all-time series 25-5-5. Butler falls to 0-2-1 with the loss.

For the Bulldogs, Brendan Cunningham accounted for both of their shots. Butler was shown two yellow cards, with Braden Benyr booked in the 13th minute and Finn Moran in the 73rd.
