Indy Eleven Fall in Phoenix

Indy Eleven saw its two-match winning streak come to an end Saturday night with a 2-1 road loss to Phoenix Rising FC.

Phoenix wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Dominique Badji took a pass from Ihsan Sacko and fired a shot into the upper corner in the fifth minute to give Rising a 1-nil lead.

But Indy answered just two minutes later.

Bruno Rendón sent a low cross into the penalty area looking for Edward Kizza. Phoenix defender Pape Mar Boye attempted to deal with the delivery but instead knocked the ball into his own net, tying the match at 1-1 in the seventh minute.

Phoenix found what proved to be the game-winner in the 28th minute. Daniel Flores sent a low free kick into the area that made its way through traffic and into the net, putting Rising back in front 2-1.

That score held the rest of the way. Indy was unable to find a second-half equalizer, while goalkeeper Eric Dick helped keep the Boys in Blue within striking distance, including a late save on Ihsan Sacko.

The loss snaps Indy Eleven’s three-match unbeaten run and drops the Boys in Blue to 8-8-and-4. Indy has collected just five points from 10 road matches this season.

Indy Eleven returns home Saturday, September 5th, to host Birmingham Legion FC at Carroll Stadium.
