Butler Falls to Memphis

Butler suffered a 5-1 loss to Memphis Monday night at the Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis.

Memphis jumped out quickly, as Miller Lashlee scored just 1 minute, 54 seconds into the match. Eben McIntyre followed with another Tiger goal in the 12th minute, putting Butler in an early 2-nothing hole.

The Bulldogs got one back just before halftime. With only 27 seconds remaining, Max Klein scored off a corner kick, with assists from Brendan Cunningham and Finn Moran, cutting the Memphis lead to 2-1 at the break. It was Butler’s first goal of the season.

Memphis pulled away in the second half. Carson Banham scored in the 53rd minute before Lashlee added his second goal of the night in the 80th. Ryan Ruguaru finished the scoring in the 88th minute to give the Tigers the 5-1 victory.

Butler finished with six shots and six corner kicks, while Memphis had nine shots and converted all five of its shots on goal.

The Bulldogs fall to 0-3-and-1 on the season and return to action Friday when they host Lindenwood at the Sellick Bowl.
