Bethel Shuts Out Aquinas College in Womens Soccer

Bethel University used a pair of late goals Tuesday night to earn a 2-0 shutout victory over Aquinas College at Morey Field in Mishawaka.

For most of the night, neither side could find a breakthrough.

Aquinas created some opportunities during the opening half, including a chance from Reagan LaCross in the 18th minute, but Bethel goalkeeper Isabella Ferreira made the save to keep the match scoreless.

The Saints also had back-to-back attempts from Reegyn Cady in the 22nd and 23rd minutes, but both went wide.

The match remained scoreless through halftime and deep into the second half before the Pilots finally took control.

In the 80th minute, Kayden Firsdon broke the deadlock, putting Bethel in front, 1-0.

And the Pilots weren’t finished.

Just about a minute later, in the 81st minute, Pauline Vinciguerra found the back of the net, giving Bethel a quick two-goal advantage.

That was more than enough for Ferreira and the Bethel defense.

Bethel finished with a 15-to-9 advantage in shots and put nine attempts on goal.

Aquinas goalkeeper Claire Fogarty kept the Saints in the match for most of the evening, making seven saves while playing all 90 minutes.

At the other end, Ferreira and the Bethel defense held Aquinas to only three shots on goal and completed the shutout.
