DeWitt’s Second-Half Goal Lifts UIndy Past William Jewell, 1-0

The University of Indianapolis women’s soccer team broke through in the second half Saturday, earning a 1-0 victory over William Jewell at Key Stadium.
The Greyhounds controlled the match from an attacking standpoint, holding William Jewell without a shot for the entire 90 minutes. UIndy generated 15 shots, putting five on target, but had to wait until the 72nd minute to finally turn that pressure into a goal.
The breakthrough came from Emily DeWitt, who scored her first goal of the season at the 71:58 mark. Hannah Magruder and Frances Poulos combined to set up DeWitt for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
William Jewell goalkeeper made four saves to keep the Cardinals within striking distance, but the visitors were unable to generate an opportunity at the other end.
UIndy finished with a 15-0 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. The Greyhounds put five shots on goal, while William Jewell did not record one.
The victory also gives UIndy a much-needed response after Wednesday’s road loss at Quincy, with the Greyhounds protecting their one-goal advantage over the final 18 minutes to secure the shutout.
