Greyhounds Blank Lake Erie for First Win of Season

INDIANAPOLIS — UIndy picked up its first victory of the 2026 men’s soccer season Sunday afternoon, defeating Lake Erie 1-0 in the Greyhounds’ home opener at Key Stadium.

After a scoreless opening half, UIndy finally broke through in the 65th minute. Shayne Abrams helped create the opportunity with a run down the right side that resulted in a Greyhound corner kick. Carson Nolan delivered the ensuing corner into the box, where Saul Greenwood got his head to the ball and put it into the net for a 1-0 advantage. The goal was both Greenwood’s first of the season and the first of his collegiate career.

UIndy goalkeeper Rick Lammerts and the Greyhound defense made that goal stand.

Lake Erie increased the pressure after falling behind, but Lammerts stopped the Storm’s first attempt following the goal and then made five more saves over the final 25 minutes. He finished with six saves while recording his second consecutive shutout to begin the season.

The Greyhounds were held to four shots in the match but made their opportunity count. Truls Karlsen recorded UIndy’s first shot on goal in the 25th minute, while Alejandro Zuniga also put an attempt on frame before halftime.

With the victory, UIndy improves to 1-0-1 on the season after opening the year with a scoreless draw against No. 21 Cedarville.

The Greyhounds return to action Wednesday when they travel to Findlay. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
