Indiana Climbs Into National Top Five in Latest United Soccer Coaches Poll

Indiana men’s soccer continues to climb the national ladder, with the Hoosiers moving into the Top 5 of the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s National Poll.
Indiana moved up one position from No. 6 to No. 5 nationally in the September 8 rankings, continuing a rapid rise for the Hoosiers during the opening weeks of the 2026 season.
The Hoosiers are the highest-ranked — and currently the only ranked — NCAA Division I men’s soccer program from the state of Indiana in the national Top 25.
Indiana began the season ranked No. 22 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, but it hasn’t taken long for the Hoosiers to establish themselves among the nation’s elite.
Indiana’s 4-0-1 record through games included in the September 8 poll has helped propel the Hoosiers into the national championship conversation.
Stanford continues to hold the No. 1 position, receiving all eight first-place votes.
Maryland remains No. 2, while Ohio State moves up to No. 3 and Georgetown climbs to No. 4.
Then comes Indiana at No. 5.

Indiana received 168 points in the latest voting.
The Hoosiers are also surrounded by Big Ten opposition near the top of the rankings. Maryland is second, Ohio State third, Indiana fifth, Wisconsin eighth and Michigan State tenth.
That gives the Big Ten five of the nation’s Top 10 teams.
Indiana Leads the State’s Division I Programs
While Indiana is carrying the state’s banner in the national poll, several other NCAA Division I men’s programs across Indiana continue their 2026 campaigns.
The state’s Division I group includes Indiana, Butler, Evansville, IU Indianapolis, Notre Dame and Purdue Fort Wayne.
For now, however, the Hoosiers stand alone among Indiana programs in the United Soccer Coaches national Top 25.
IU Indianapolis did receive recognition earlier this season in the United Soccer Coaches North Region rankings, appearing at No. 10 in the September 1 regional poll before dropping out of the regional Top 10 this week.
Indiana, meanwhile, is No. 3 in the latest North Region rankings, behind Maryland and Ohio State.
Perhaps the biggest Indiana takeaway from this week’s rankings isn’t simply that the Hoosiers moved up another position.
It’s how quickly they’ve climbed.
Indiana has gone from being ranked outside the national Top 20 in the preseason to being one of the five highest-ranked teams in NCAA Division I men’s soccer in a matter of weeks.
The Hoosiers jumped eight spots from No. 22 to No. 14 following the opening weekend. They followed that with another eight-position surge to No. 6 before moving into the Top 5 this week.
Indiana has now climbed in every United Soccer Coaches poll released during the regular season.
And with conference play approaching, the road is about to become considerably more interesting.
Five Big Ten programs are already ranked inside the national Top 10, meaning Indiana’s pursuit of a conference championship will also feature some of the biggest matches on the national college soccer calendar.
