Indiana Girls Soccer Recap from Monday
Monday night brought another busy slate of Indiana high school girls soccer, with several teams in the newly released Indiana Soccer Coaches Association rankings turning in impressive performances.
One of the biggest statements came from Class 3A No. 5 Center Grove, as the Trojans rolled past Pike, 11-0. Center Grove entered the week ranked fifth in the new ISCA Class 3A poll and wasted little time showing why.
Class 3A No. 12 Mt. Vernon was nearly as dominant. The Marauders blanked Greenwood, 8-0, continuing a strong season.
Another ranked 3A squad picking up a convincing victory was No. 9 Lawrence North. The Wildcats controlled the rivalry matchup against Lawrence Central and came away with a 7-0 victory.
One of Monday’s most noteworthy results came in Bloomington. Bloomington South defeated No. 15 Columbus North, 1-0, handing the Bull Dogs a narrow setback and giving the Panthers a quality result against a Top-20 opponent.
Several other notable Class 3A results included Plainfield’s 2-0 victory over Brownsburg, Ben Davis’ 3-0 win over Warren Central, and Perry Meridian’s 1-0 victory against Martinsville.
Class 2A
There were several noteworthy performances among Class 2A programs as well.
Tri-West put together one of the stronger offensive performances of the evening, defeating Lebanon 5-1. Tri-West entered the week ranked No. 9 in Class 2A.
Washington, ranked No. 17 in the latest Class 2A poll, earned a 2-1 victory over Evansville Christian, which entered the week ranked No. 10 in Class 1A.
Andrean picked up a clean sheet with a 2-0 win over Wheeler, while East Noble defeated Norwell, 4-2.
DeKalb, ranked No. 19 in Class 2A, earned a 2-0 victory over Huntington North.
Class 1A
Class 1A also produced several strong performances Monday.
No. 3 Forest Park survived a battle with Northeast Dubois and earned a 2-1 victory.
No. 11 Sheridan recorded a clean sheet in a 1-0 win against Hamilton Heights.
No. 13 Trinity Academy was on the other end of one of Monday’s biggest scorelines, rolling past South Bend Riley 9-0.
No. 14 Lakewood Park Christian matched that margin with a 9-0 victory against Fort Wayne North Side.
Elsewhere, Rising Sun defeated Southwestern 3-1, Northwestern blanked Tri-Central 6-0, and Trinity Lutheran defeated Scottsburg 4-1.
Other Monday Highlights
Vincennes Lincoln remained hot with a 2-1 victory over Wood Memorial. The Alices entered the contest unbeaten and continued their strong start to the season.
Boone Grove earned a 3-0 win over Kouts, while DeMotte Christian defeated Marquette Catholic 3-1.
Hebron picked up a 4-1 victory against Merrillville, South Adams blanked Heritage 2-0, Columbia City defeated New Haven 3-0, and Goshen earned a 4-1 win over Westview.
Shelbyville produced another one of the night’s biggest offensive performances with a 9-0 victory over Beech Grove, while New Albany matched that score in a 9-0 win over Salem.
West Vigo also rolled to an 8-0 victory over South Vermillion, and Angola defeated Woodlan 4-2.
With the postseason drawing closer, Monday provided another look at a number of potential tournament contenders. Center Grove, Mt. Vernon and Lawrence North all backed up their Class 3A rankings with dominant victories, while Forest Park, Tri-West, Washington and Sheridan were among the ranked teams adding wins in the smaller classes.
The biggest eye-catcher may have been Bloomington South’s 1-0 victory over No. 15 Columbus North, another reminder that rankings will mean little once tournament play arrives.
