Indiana Soccer Preview for September 16th

Boys HS Soccer

Wednesday brings another busy night of Indiana high school boys soccer, with ranked programs across all three classes looking to strengthen their position as the regular season moves deeper into September.

The marquee matchup comes in southern Indiana, while a cross-class battle between Mishawaka Marian and Penn should also command plenty of attention.

Castle Battles Evansville Memorial in Top 10 Showdown

One of the biggest matches anywhere in the state sends Class 3A No. 2 Castle to No. 8 Evansville Memorial.

Castle enters Wednesday at 9-1-1 according to the current MaxPreps schedule, while Memorial is listed at 5-2-1. With both teams sitting inside the ISCA Class 3A Top 10, this is one of the strongest matchups on Wednesday’s schedule.

For Castle, it is another opportunity to reinforce its standing among Indiana’s elite. Memorial gets the opportunity to make a significant statement against the second-ranked Knights.

Mishawaka Marian Welcomes Penn in Cross-Class Test

Another matchup worth watching comes in Mishawaka, where Class 2A No. 2 Mishawaka Marian hosts Class 3A No. 19 Penn.

Marian enters the night at 8-1, while Penn is 6-3-4. It gives both teams a quality late-season test against ranked opposition from another classification.

Marian is chasing the top spot in a loaded 2A field led by Guerin Catholic, while Penn has an opportunity to strengthen its résumé against one of the state’s premier 2A programs.

No. 1 Guerin Catholic Back in Action

The top-ranked team in Class 2A also takes the field Wednesday as No. 1 Guerin Catholic hosts Oak Hill.

Guerin enters the matchup unbeaten at 6-0-4. Oak Hill brings a 5-3-1 record into the contest, giving the Golden Eagles another opportunity to test themselves as they prepare for the stretch run.

Columbus North Visits Roncalli

Class 3A No. 13 Columbus North travels to Indianapolis for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against Roncalli.

Roncalli comes into Wednesday after a 5-0 victory over Pendleton Heights and has also recently defeated Bishop Chatard 2-0. Columbus North enters at 5-0-3, setting up an interesting road test for the unbeaten Bull Dogs.

Chesterton Faces Crown Point

Northwest Indiana features another important contest as 3A No. 9 Chesterton travels to Crown Point.

Chesterton is listed at 9-1, while Crown Point enters at 5-4. The Trojans are the highest-ranked 3A program from Northwest Indiana in this week’s ISCA poll and will try to continue building momentum heading toward October.

Leo, Carroll and Elkhart Highlight Northern Indiana

Several more ranked teams are scheduled across northern Indiana.

2A No. 5 Leo hosts DeKalb, while 3A No. 12 Fort Wayne Carroll hosts Fort Wayne Northrop. Carroll is coming off a 4-1 victory over Bishop Luers earlier this week.

3A No. 20 Elkhart travels to New Prairie. Elkhart enters Wednesday at 8-3 according to the statewide schedule.

More Ranked Teams to Watch

2A No. 7 Illiana Christian travels to Munster, while 2A No. 12 Hanover Central hosts Kankakee Valley.

2A No. 18 Andrean, which enters Wednesday at 10-1, visits Hobart.

Class 1A also has several ranked programs scheduled. No. 3 Shawe Memorial hosts No. 17 Rising Sun, giving Wednesday another matchup involving two ISCA-ranked teams.

1A No. 14 South Knox hosts Sullivan, while 2A No. 20 Charlestown visits Scottsburg.

Wednesday’s Ranked Games to Watch

3A No. 2 Castle at 3A No. 8 Evansville Memorial — Two of the state’s highest-ranked 3A teams meet in Evansville.

3A No. 19 Penn at 2A No. 2 Mishawaka Marian — A quality cross-class matchup featuring two ranked northern Indiana programs.

Girls HS Soccer

Indiana high school girls soccer takes center stage Wednesday with a loaded slate featuring three significant Class 3A matchups and several ranked teams from all three classes.

The biggest attention will be on Hamilton County, where No. 1 Hamilton Southeastern visits No. 4 Westfield and No. 8 Noblesville travels to No. 6 Zionsville. Meanwhile, No. 9 Lawrence North visits No. 5 Center Grove in another matchup between Top-10 teams.

No. 1 Hamilton Southeastern at No. 4 Westfield

The headline matchup features 3A No. 1 Hamilton Southeastern at No. 4 Westfield.

Hamilton Southeastern enters Wednesday unbeaten at 10-0, while Westfield is 9-1. The Shamrocks are coming off a 1-0 victory over No. 7 Cathedral on Monday.

With two of the top four teams in Class 3A meeting, this provides both programs with another high-level test as the postseason approaches.

No. 8 Noblesville at No. 6 Zionsville

There is another major matchup at Zionsville, where 3A No. 8 Noblesville visits No. 6 Zionsville.

Zionsville enters at 7-1-1, while Noblesville is 4-2-3. Both programs have spent the season among Indiana’s highly regarded Class 3A teams, making this another important late-September measuring stick.

No. 9 Lawrence North at No. 5 Center Grove

Wednesday’s third Top-10 Class 3A matchup sends No. 9 Lawrence North to No. 5 Center Grove.

Lawrence North enters at 8-3, while Center Grove is 8-1-1. The Trojans split two difficult matches Saturday, defeating Crown Point 1-0 before falling 3-1 to No. 2 Homestead.

It is another quality opponent for both teams as they continue preparing for tournament soccer.

Cathedral Faces Bloomington South

3A No. 7 Cathedral will try to bounce back when the Irish visit Bloomington South.

Cathedral enters at 5-3-1 after Monday’s narrow 1-0 loss to Westfield. Bloomington South comes into the matchup at 4-4-2.

For Cathedral, Wednesday provides an immediate opportunity to respond following the close loss against another Top-10 opponent.

Lawrenceburg Looks to Keep Rolling

3A No. 19 Lawrenceburg hosts South Dearborn Wednesday.

The Tigers enter at 7-2 and are the only other ISCA-ranked Class 3A program currently listed on Wednesday’s schedule.

Ranked 2A Battle: DeKalb at Leo

Class 2A also offers a matchup between two ranked teams when No. 19 DeKalb visits No. 12 Leo.

DeKalb enters at 8-2, while Leo is 6-3. With both programs ranked in the ISCA Top 20, the matchup should provide another useful test for two northern Indiana teams approaching the final portion of the regular season.

No. 9 Tri-West Hosts Monrovia

2A No. 9 Tri-West carries an impressive 10-1 record into its home matchup against Monrovia.

Tri-West has established itself among the teams to watch in Class 2A and will look to continue its strong regular season Wednesday.

Class 1A Spotlight

Several ranked Class 1A programs are also in action.

One of the most intriguing games has No. 16 South Knox hosting unbeaten Sullivan. South Knox enters at 6-2-1, while Sullivan comes in at 6-0-3.

No. 6 Oak Hill puts a perfect 10-0 record on the line against Maconaquah. Oak Hill is one of the remaining unbeaten teams in the state and continues to chase No. 1 Westview in the Class 1A rankings.

Games to Watch

3A No. 1 Hamilton Southeastern at No. 4 Westfield — The premier matchup of the night features two Top-4 teams and an unbeaten HSE squad.

3A No. 8 Noblesville at No. 6 Zionsville — Another major Hamilton County battle between ranked programs.

3A No. 9 Lawrence North at No. 5 Center Grove — Two more Top-10 teams collide in Greenwood.

2A No. 19 DeKalb at No. 12 Leo — A head-to-head meeting between ranked Class 2A programs.

Sullivan at 1A No. 16 South Knox — Unbeaten Sullivan faces a ranked South Knox squad.

Maconaquah at 1A No. 6 Oak Hill — Oak Hill attempts to protect its perfect 10-0 record.

College Men’s Soccer

Wednesday brings another strong night of college men’s soccer across Indiana, with NCAA and NAIA programs taking the field and several intriguing in-state matchups highlighting the schedule.

The spotlight falls on Winona Lake, where Indiana Tech visits Grace, while Rose-Hulman and DePauw renew an in-state NCAA Division III matchup. Wabash travels to Anderson, Marian welcomes IU East, and UIndy continues GLVC play at home.

Indiana Tech at Grace

One of Wednesday’s premier matches sends Indiana Tech to Grace for a 7 p.m. kickoff at 1st Source Bank Field in Winona Lake.

Indiana Tech enters with plenty of momentum. The Warriors defeated Huntington 2-1 last Wednesday before earning an impressive 2-0 road victory over Marian Saturday.

That improved Indiana Tech to 5-1-1 heading into Wednesday.

Grace presents another significant challenge as the Warriors continue through a difficult September schedule. For Indiana Tech, this is an opportunity to carry the momentum from its win at Marian into another road match against an Indiana opponent.

Rose-Hulman at DePauw

Two familiar Indiana NCAA Division III programs meet at 7 p.m. when Rose-Hulman visits DePauw in Greencastle.

DePauw enters at 3-1. The Tigers opened the season with three consecutive victories, defeating Trine 2-0, Adrian 3-1 and Anderson 3-0 before suffering their first loss, 4-1 against Calvin.

Rose-Hulman, meanwhile, gets another opportunity against an in-state opponent after facing Wabash last week.

This should be an interesting measuring-stick match for both programs before conference play becomes the primary focus.

Wabash at Anderson

Wabash travels to Anderson for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The Little Giants have been one of Indiana’s strongest Division III teams during the opening weeks of the season. Wabash won its first six matches, including a 4-1 victory over Rose-Hulman, before suffering its first defeat Sunday, 2-1 against Muskingum.

Wabash enters Wednesday at 6-1 and has already scored at least two goals in each of its first seven matches.

Anderson gets the opportunity to slow down that attack on its home field.

Missouri-St. Louis at UIndy

UIndy hosts Missouri-St. Louis at 5 p.m. at Key Stadium/Kiesel Field in Indianapolis.

The Greyhounds enter at 2-2-2 following Saturday’s 2-1 victory over William Jewell. UIndy’s first six matches have been extremely competitive, with five decided by one goal or ending in a draw.

Wednesday gives the Greyhounds another opportunity to build momentum at home as GLVC competition continues.

IU East at Marian

Marian welcomes IU East at 7 p.m. at Ascension St. Vincent Field in Indianapolis, with the Knights celebrating Alumni Night.

Marian enters looking to respond after Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Indiana Tech. Before that defeat, the Knights had put together an impressive run that included victories over IU Columbus, Saint Xavier, Judson and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Marian is 6-2 entering Wednesday.

IU East gives the Knights another in-state opponent before Marian begins Crossroads League competition next week at Huntington.

Harris-Stowe State at IU Columbus

IU Columbus hosts Harris-Stowe State at 5:30 p.m. at the Circle K Fieldhouse at NexusPark.

The Crimson Pride enter after Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Taylor. IU Columbus has shown the ability to produce goals this season, including a 5-3 victory over Alice Lloyd.

Harris-Stowe enters Wednesday receiving votes nationally, giving IU Columbus an opportunity to earn a notable result on its home field.

Earlham at Wittenberg

Earlham heads across the state line Wednesday afternoon for a 4 p.m. match at Wittenberg in Springfield, Ohio.

The Quakers continue their nonconference schedule before returning to Richmond Saturday to host Olivet.

Wednesday’s Indiana Men’s College Soccer Schedule

4 p.m. — Earlham at Wittenberg

5 p.m. — Missouri-St. Louis at UIndy

5:30 p.m. — Harris-Stowe State at IU Columbus

7 p.m. — Indiana Tech at Grace

7 p.m. — IU East at Marian

7 p.m. — Rose-Hulman at DePauw

7 p.m. — Wabash at Anderson

College Women’s Soccer

Indiana college women’s soccer continues Wednesday with a smaller but intriguing slate featuring NCAA Division II and NAIA programs.

The headline matchup comes in Marion, where nationally ranked Indiana Wesleyan welcomes IU East, while UIndy hosts Missouri-St. Louis in GLVC action. Elsewhere, Bethel welcomes Madonna, IU Columbus hosts Harris-Stowe State, Goshen heads to Kalamazoo and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods welcomes Anderson.

IU East at No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan

One of the biggest matches involving an Indiana program Wednesday sends IU East to No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan for a 5 p.m. kickoff at IWU Soccer Field in Marion.

Indiana Wesleyan has been one of the nation’s top NAIA programs during the opening portion of the season and enters Wednesday unbeaten.

The Wildcats’ most recent outing was a 1-0 road victory over Madonna on Sept. 9. Now IWU returns home for another in-state matchup before turning its attention toward the beginning of Crossroads League competition.

IU East gets an opportunity to measure itself against one of the strongest teams it will face during the regular season.

Missouri-St. Louis at UIndy

UIndy hosts Missouri-St. Louis at 2:30 p.m. at Key Stadium/Kiesel Field in Indianapolis.

The Greyhounds picked up their first victory of the season Saturday, defeating William Jewell 1-0. That result improved UIndy to 1-3 overall and provided some needed momentum following road losses against Ohio Dominican, Rockhurst and Quincy.

Wednesday provides an opportunity for the Greyhounds to build on that performance against another GLVC opponent.

Madonna at Bethel

Bethel hosts Madonna at 3 p.m. at Morey Field in Mishawaka.

The Pilots have been difficult to break down recently. Bethel defeated Cornerstone 1-0 last Wednesday before playing Holy Cross to a scoreless draw Saturday.

That means the Pilots enter Wednesday having gone more than 180 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.

Madonna, meanwhile, comes to Mishawaka after suffering a narrow 1-0 loss against Indiana Wesleyan.

Harris-Stowe State at IU Columbus

IU Columbus welcomes Harris-Stowe State for a 3 p.m. kickoff at the Circle K Fieldhouse at NexusPark.

The Crimson Pride will be looking to respond after Saturday’s 5-2 loss against the University of St. Francis (Illinois).

Wednesday begins a two-match homestand for IU Columbus, which will also welcome Goshen on Saturday.

Goshen at Kalamazoo

Goshen travels to Kalamazoo College for a 4:30 p.m. match in Michigan.

The Maple Leafs enter following a dramatic 1-1 draw against IU Northwest on Saturday.

Goshen trailed for most of that match before finding an equalizer in stoppage time, allowing the Maple Leafs to escape with the draw.

Wednesday gives Goshen another nonconference test before Saturday’s trip to IU Columbus.

Anderson at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods

Another all-Indiana matchup sends Anderson to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods for a 5 p.m. kickoff at McMahon Field in Terre Haute.

The Pomeroys continue their lengthy September schedule after playing at Governors State on Monday.

Wednesday’s matchup gives SMWC another NCAA Division III opponent after the Pomeroys faced Rose-Hulman earlier this month.

For Anderson, it is another opportunity against an Indiana opponent as the Ravens continue preparing for Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

IU Northwest Hosts Aquinas

IU Northwest welcomes Aquinas Wednesday night with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.

The RedHawks enter following Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Goshen. Mari Williams gave IU Northwest the lead in the 13th minute before Goshen produced a late equalizer.

IU Northwest will try to turn another strong performance into a victory Wednesday against Aquinas.

Wednesday’s Indiana College Women’s Soccer Schedule

2:30 p.m. — Missouri-St. Louis at UIndy

3 p.m. — Madonna at Bethel

3 p.m. — Harris-Stowe State at IU Columbus

4:30 p.m. — Goshen at Kalamazoo

5 p.m. — IU East at No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan

5 p.m. — Anderson at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods

7 p.m. CT — Aquinas at IU Northwest
