IU East Erupts Early, Rolls Past Earlham 6-0

Indiana University East wasted little time taking control Saturday afternoon, scoring five times in the opening half on the way to a 6-0 victory over Earlham College at Matlack-Messer Stadium.

The Red Wolves opened the scoring just 6:46 into the match when Zaryah Griffin found the back of the net for her second goal.

Less than five minutes later, Aubrey Unger doubled the advantage, scoring her first goal at the 11:13 mark to make it 2-0.

IU East continued to pile on the pressure. Lily Hart scored in the 21st minute off an assist from Josie Woeste, and Madison Schwalm followed just over two minutes later with her first goal to extend the advantage to 4-0.

The Red Wolves weren’t finished before halftime. Mia Runyan converted a penalty kick in the 32nd minute, sending IU East into the break with a commanding 5-0 lead.
Griffin then completed her brace in the 57th minute, scoring her second goal of the afternoon and providing the final margin at 6-0.

IU East controlled the attacking numbers, finishing with a 15-4 advantage in shots and putting nine attempts on goal. Earlham managed two shots on target. The Quakers’ goalkeepers combined for three saves, while IU East recorded two saves to preserve the clean sheet.

The victory gives IU East its first win of the season, moving the Red Wolves to 1-0, while Earlham falls to 0-4. The Quakers had entered Saturday after losses to Wilmington, Saint Mary’s and Heidelberg.

For Earlham, it was another difficult afternoon defensively, but the Quakers did earn a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks despite IU East controlling the majority of the scoring opportunities
