Late Lang Goal Earns Goshen 1-1 Draw With IU Northwest

Goshen College found a dramatic late equalizer Saturday night as Eliana Lang scored in the 86th minute, lifting the Maple Leafs to a 1-1 draw against IU Northwest.

IU Northwest grabbed the early advantage in the 14th minute. Mari Williams collected a loose ball above the top of the box and converted for her fourth goal of the season, putting the RedHawks ahead 1-0.

That advantage held through halftime and deep into the second half. IU Northwest produced the majority of the attacking pressure, but Goshen stayed within striking distance behind a strong performance in goal.

The breakthrough finally arrived with just under five minutes remaining. Following a free kick, Natalie Boulier provided the service and Lang finished on her second touch at the near side for her second goal of the season, tying the match at 1-1.

Goshen goalkeeper Isabel Massud helped keep the Maple Leafs alive long enough to find the equalizer. IU Northwest finished with 24 shots and nine on goal, while Goshen recorded 10 shots with five on target. The Maple Leafs made eight saves compared with four for the RedHawks.

IU Northwest also held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks, but couldn’t turn its second-half pressure into the insurance goal it needed.
The result extends Goshen’s unbeaten streak to three matches following consecutive victories over Saint Xavier and Cleary.
