Wednesday Soccer Preview

Wednesday isn’t the busiest night for soccer, but there are definitely some interesting matchups around the state and on the college and professional levels.
There are 2 premier boys high school soccer matchups.
In the Fort Wayne area, 3A # Carroll of Fort Wayne travels to 2A #6 Leo.
Carroll enters the matchup at 3-2-2, having scored 18 goals while allowing just six through its first seven matches. The Chargers have been particularly difficult to beat lately, going unbeaten in their last four with victories over Elkhart and Bishop Dwenger and draws against Blackhawk Christian and Cathedral. Carroll’s most recent result was a 1-1 draw at Cathedral on Saturday.
The Chargers have also been tested against some of the state’s best competition. Both Carroll losses have been 1-0 decisions, coming against Mishawaka Marian and Goshen. Those two teams currently sit at No. 2 in Class 2A and No. 1 in Class 3A, respectively, in this week’s Indiana Soccer Coaches Association rankings.
Carroll senior Spyros Raptis leads the team with three goals in the statistics currently reported to MaxPreps. Senior midfielder Keegon Burget has three assists, while senior goalkeeper Boston Stansifer is averaging 4.4 saves per match with a 1.067 goals-against average.
Across the field, Leo comes in with an impressive 5-1-1 record, giving the Lions one of the better starts among northeast Indiana teams.
In Evansville, it’s a huge SIAC matchup between 3A #9 Memorial and 3A #15 North.
Memorial enters Wednesday at 4-2-1. The Tigers are coming off a 1-1 draw against McCracken County and have already picked up victories over Evansville Central, Evansville Reitz, Martinsville and Evansville Mater Dei. Memorial has scored 22 goals through its first seven matches.
Junior forward Ben Eaton has provided much of the attacking punch for Memorial, leading the Tigers with six goals in the statistics reported to MaxPreps. Senior Quinn Brown has helped create those opportunities, recording a team-high seven assists, while junior goalkeeper Zach Boes has averaged 3.4 saves per match.
Across the field, Evansville North enters at 5-1-1 and is coming off a 3-1 victory over New Albany on Saturday. The Huskies have been particularly dangerous offensively and scored seven times in a shutout victory over Evansville Reitz earlier this season.
Junior Gavin Vignolo has been a major part of that attack. Vignolo leads North with nine goals, averaging 1.3 goals per match. Junior Keaton Siesky leads the Huskies in assists per match, while junior goalkeeper Finn Hussmann has posted a 0.364 goals-against average

In Girls Soccer, there are a few matchups to be on the lookout for.
One of the marquee girls soccer matches in Indiana Wednesday night takes place in Hamilton County, where Class 3A No. 5 Westfield travels to No. 7 Noblesville for a Top-10 battle between Hoosier Crossroads Conference rivals.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Hallmark Orthodontics Soccer Complex at Noblesville High School.
Both programs enter the matchup with impressive starts, but they’ve taken different paths to Wednesday night’s showdown.
Westfield enters at 6-1 after winning six of its first seven matches.
The Shamrocks have been especially dangerous going forward, scoring 34 goals through seven matches, an average of nearly five goals per contest. Five of Westfield’s six victories have come by at least three goals.
Westfield’s résumé already includes some eye-catching results. The Shamrocks defeated Fishers 5-0, Franklin Central 5-1 and Zionsville 6-0 before heading south for the Panther Classic.
After suffering their first loss of the season, Westfield responded immediately Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Evansville North, another team currently ranked in the Class 3A Top 20.
That ability to score in bunches will present a significant challenge for the Noblesville defense.
While Westfield has piled up goals, Noblesville has built its early success around a defense that has consistently kept opponents within reach.
The Millers enter Wednesday at 4-1-3, having allowed just six goals in eight matches.
Noblesville’s only loss came against Class 3A No. 1 Hamilton Southeastern, and even that was just a 1-0 decision. The Millers also played No. 6 Cathedral to a 1-1 draw and battled Fishers to a 1-1 tie.
Noblesville comes into Wednesday with some offensive momentum as well.
The Millers rolled past Sheridan 5-0 on Saturday, improving to 4-1-3 and recording their third victory of the season by at least three goals.
Another one of Wednesday night’s marquee girls soccer matches is in Northern Indiana and features a pair of state-ranked rivals as Class 2A No. 1 South Bend Saint Joseph travels to Class 3A No. 16 Mishawaka Marian.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mishawaka Marian High School, following the JV contest.
South Bend Saint Joseph enters the week occupying the top spot in the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association’s Class 2A poll.
The Huskies have put together an unbeaten start, carrying a 6-0-2 record into Wednesday’s matchup according to the latest MaxPreps preview.
Saint Joseph’s latest victory was an impressive 4-1 win over Chesterton. It continued a trend for the Huskies, who have recorded four victories by at least three goals this season.
The Huskies have also been difficult to score against. Goalkeeper Lily Neeser has posted a goals-against average around 0.33 in the statistics reported to MaxPreps, while Kira Wasilewski has been one of Saint Joseph’s primary attacking threats.
That combination of defensive strength and attacking ability has helped Saint Joseph climb all the way to No. 1 in the ISCA Class 2A rankings, ahead of Evansville Memorial, Park Tudor, Brebeuf Jesuit and Evansville Mater Dei.
Mishawaka Marian presents a major challenge.
The Knights enter at 6-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play and are ranked No. 16 in Class 3A by the ISCA.
Marian’s attack has been led by senior forward Kendall Bradley, who has 10 goals in the statistics currently reported to MaxPreps. Sophomore Aubrey Bradley has helped create those scoring opportunities with six assists.
The Knights also enter Wednesday with momentum after a 2-0 shutout of South Bend Adams in their previous conference match.
We have another top girls matchup in Central Indiana. Class 2A No. 4 Brebeuf Jesuit travels to Class 3A No. 6 Cathedral. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cathedral’s Brunette Park Soccer/Lacrosse Field.
It’s an intriguing cross-class test featuring two teams firmly established in this week’s Indiana Soccer Coaches Association rankings. Cathedral sits sixth in Class 3A, while Brebeuf is fourth in Class 2A.
Brebeuf enters Wednesday with a 3-2-3 record.
The Braves are coming off a narrow 2-1 loss to 2A No. 2 Evansville Memorial on Saturday. Brebeuf struck first in that contest but couldn’t hold the advantage as Memorial rallied for the victory.
Despite the setback, the Braves have already shown they can compete against quality opposition. Their schedule has included matches against Guerin Catholic, Bishop Chatard, Harrison and Evansville Memorial, and the difficulty doesn’t let up with Cathedral waiting Wednesday night.
Brebeuf also has plenty of important soccer ahead. Following Cathedral, the Braves are scheduled to face Roncalli, Sheridan, Westfield and Center Grove later this season.
Cathedral enters the matchup at 3-1-1, with the Fighting Irish winning three of their last four matches.
The Irish picked up one of their biggest results of the young season Saturday when they defeated highly regarded Sacred Heart 3-2.
Cathedral has also demonstrated considerable offensive potential. The Irish scored 13 goals over their previous four matches entering Wednesday and are averaging nearly three goals per game this season.
That attack will provide a significant test for a Brebeuf side trying to rebound from Saturday’s one-goal defeat.
The final spot in this week’s Class 3A Top 20 will be represented on both sides of the field Wednesday night when No. 20 Avon travels to No. 20 Brownsburg for a Hoosier Crossroads Conference rivalry match. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Brownsburg High School Soccer Field.
Avon enters Wednesday night with a 6-3 record after getting back into the win column Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Whiteland.
The Orioles opened the season on a four-match winning streak before hitting a more difficult portion of the schedule. They’ve gone 2-3 over their last five but will arrive in Brownsburg coming off a victory.
Senior midfielder Ella Hastings has been one of the key pieces of the Avon attack. Through the statistics currently reported to MaxPreps, Hastings leads the Orioles with seven goals, while also averaging 0.4 assists per match.
Sophomore goalkeeper Iris Jones has been busy at the other end, averaging six saves per match.
Brownsburg enters at 3-2-3, but the Bulldogs will carry some momentum of their own into the rivalry matchup.
The Bulldogs earned a 1-0 road victory over North Central on Saturday, recording a clean sheet and moving back above .500.
Junior Lila Randall leads Brownsburg with four goals in the statistics reported to MaxPreps. Sophomore Blakeleigh Craft has been one of the Bulldogs’ leading creators, while senior goalkeeper Lorianne West is averaging 4.3 saves per match.
Brownsburg’s ability to keep matches close could be significant Wednesday. Five of the Bulldogs’ first eight contests have either ended in a draw or been decided by a single goal.

Wednesday brings another busy day of college soccer involving programs from across Indiana, with NCAA and NAIA teams taking the field.
On the men’s side, conference play begins for IU Indianapolis, Purdue Fort Wayne is home under the lights, UIndy continues a road swing, and two in-state matchups highlight the schedule.
On the women’s side, UIndy and Indiana Wesleyan are among the Indiana programs hitting the road.
Men’s College Soccer
IU Indianapolis at Northern Illinois — 5 p.m. ET
The Horizon League season begins Wednesday for IU Indianapolis, as the Jaguars travel to DeKalb to face conference newcomer Northern Illinois.
IU Indy enters at 3-1 and riding a three-match winning streak. Even more impressive, all three victories have been 1-0 shutouts over Lindenwood, Bowling Green and Southern Indiana.
Freshman goalkeeper Peter Field has helped anchor that defensive run, carrying a 0.50 goals-against average with three shutouts.
Senior Jago Thompson-Roberts and juniors Jai Dindiyal and Luke Gonda have also played every minute through IU Indy’s first four matches.
Northern Illinois enters at 3-2 and has won two straight, setting up an intriguing early test as both programs begin Horizon League competition.
UIndy at Quincy — 3:30 p.m. ET
The University of Indianapolis continues its road trip Wednesday afternoon with a visit to Quincy.
UIndy enters at 1-2-1 after a difficult start that has included a scoreless draw against No. 21 Cedarville, a 1-0 win over Lake Erie and one-goal losses to Findlay and Rockhurst.
The Greyhounds have played four consecutive matches decided by one goal or fewer.
That makes Wednesday another opportunity for UIndy to turn a close match in its favor before returning home Saturday to face William Jewell.
Rose-Hulman at Wabash — 5 p.m.
One of Wednesday’s best Indiana-versus-Indiana matches takes place in Crawfordsville when undefeated Rose-Hulman visits Wabash.
Rose-Hulman enters at 2-0-1 following a 2-2 draw against Centre at the Spalding Invitational.
Senior Oliver Fila has scored in consecutive matches, while Chase Kedzior found the net against Centre. Junior Ryan Shapiro has been one of the Engineers’ biggest early-season threats, producing three goals and an assist through the first three matches.
Rose-Hulman has already scored eight goals through three games.
Now the Engineers get an in-state test against a Wabash program looking to defend its home field.
Defiance at Purdue Fort Wayne — 7 p.m.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns home Wednesday night when the Mastodons welcome Defiance to the Hefner Soccer Complex.
The Mastodons enter at 1-2 and are coming off their first victory of the season.
Wednesday also provides Purdue Fort Wayne with one final tune-up before a major Horizon League matchup this weekend.
The Mastodons travel to Indianapolis on Saturday for an in-state conference battle against IU Indy.
Huntington at Indiana Tech — 7 p.m.
Another all-Indiana matchup takes place in Fort Wayne, where Indiana Tech hosts Huntington.
The Warriors have put together an impressive start.
Indiana Tech enters after a 1-0 victory over Carroll College on Sunday. That followed results that included a 2-0 win over nationally ranked Lindsey Wilson and a 2-2 draw against Eastern Oregon.
Indiana Tech has also beaten Bethel and Saint Francis this season.
The Warriors’ schedule remains loaded with Indiana opponents. After Huntington, Indiana Tech travels to Marian on Saturday before visiting Grace next Wednesday.
Women’s College Soccer
UIndy at Quincy — 1 p.m. ET
The University of Indianapolis women’s team opens Wednesday’s Indiana college soccer slate with a road match against Quincy.
The Greyhounds are searching for their first victory after opening with losses to Ohio Dominican and Rockhurst.
Wednesday begins an important stretch for UIndy, which will play William Jewell at home Saturday before hosting Missouri-St. Louis next Wednesday.
Indiana Wesleyan at Madonna — 3 p.m.
One of Indiana’s nationally prominent NAIA programs is also on the road Wednesday as Indiana Wesleyan travels to Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan.
The Wildcats enter the matchup after earning a 1-1 draw against No. 1 University of the Cumberlands on Saturday.
That result provides another indication that IWU can compete with the country’s elite.
Wednesday gives Indiana Wesleyan another road test before the Wildcats return home next week to face IU East.
A difficult Crossroads League schedule is also looming, including future matches against nationally ranked Taylor, Grace and Spring Arbor.
Professional Soccer Involving Teams In and Around Indiana
FC Cincinnati returns to action Wednesday night with a difficult Eastern Conference road test as the Orange and Blue visit the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Eastern.
Cincinnati comes into the matchup well-rested after its scheduled weekend match was postponed because of weather. Head coach Pat Noonan and his staff used the unexpected opening to get additional training work in before turning their attention to Philadelphia.
Now FCC faces one of the hottest teams in Major League Soccer.
Philadelphia enters Wednesday riding an eight-match unbeaten streak since MLS play resumed following the World Cup break.
The Union have climbed back into the Eastern Conference playoff picture and enter the night ninth in the conference with 27 points.
Philadelphia’s latest result was a 2-0 victory over CF Montréal, with Danley Jean Jacques and 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan finding the net.
Sullivan has quickly become one of the biggest young stories in MLS. He has scored in three consecutive matches and has recorded a goal contribution in five straight league appearances.
That makes slowing the teenager one of Cincinnati’s biggest defensive assignments Wednesday.
For FC Cincinnati, the matchup represents an opportunity to pick up a significant result away from home against a team playing its best soccer of the season.
The Orange and Blue haven’t played since their weather postponement Saturday, giving
Cincinnati additional recovery time entering a demanding portion of the schedule.
Philadelphia won’t offer much room for error.
The Union have won six matches during their current eight-game unbeaten stretch and will have home-field advantage at Subaru Park.
History Favors Philadelphia
This will be the 18th meeting in all competitions between Cincinnati and Philadelphia.
The Union lead the all-time series 9-5-3, including a 7-4-3 advantage in MLS regular-season meetings.
Surprisingly, this is the first meeting between the clubs during the 2026 season.
What to Watch
The biggest question may be whether Cincinnati can disrupt a Philadelphia side carrying tremendous momentum.
The Union are playing confidently, Sullivan has emerged as one of the league’s hottest young players, and goalkeeper Andre Blake remains capable of changing a match — as he showed with a penalty save against Montréal.
Cincinnati, however, comes into the contest rested and with an opportunity to make a statement on the road.
With points becoming increasingly valuable as the regular season moves deeper into September,
FC Cincinnati at Philadelphia is one of Wednesday night’s most intriguing Eastern Conference matches.
Another one of the biggest matches of the MLS midweek schedule takes place Wednesday night at Soldier Field as Chicago Fire FC hosts Inter Miami CF in a matchup between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Central — 8:30 p.m. Eastern and there will be plenty of attention on this one.
Chicago has announced that the match is sold out at Soldier Field. Fire Haven’t Lost in Six
Chicago enters Wednesday playing some of its best soccer of the season.
The Fire are 11-6-5 with 38 points and sit third in the Eastern Conference.
Chicago is also riding a six-match unbeaten streak, going 3-0-3 during that stretch.
The Fire’s latest match provided plenty of offense but not much separation, as Chicago played Toronto FC to a wild 4-4 draw.
Maren Haile-Selassie scored twice in the match and was subsequently named to the MLS Team of the Matchday.
Haile-Selassie has been one of Chicago’s most consistent attacking contributors this season, producing seven goals and eight assists.
Lewandowski Making an Immediate Impact
Chicago’s summer addition of Robert Lewandowski has also given the Fire another dangerous weapon.
Lewandowski has wasted little time adapting to MLS, producing five goals and two assists through his first eight appearances.
With Haile-Selassie and Lewandowski both producing, Chicago has the attacking talent to challenge an Inter Miami side loaded with stars of its own.
Inter Miami enters at 12-4-7 and sits second in the Eastern Conference.
And once again, Lionel Messi is at the center of everything.
Messi leads Miami with 18 goals and 12 assists this season and is tied among the MLS leaders in goals.
Miami also has plenty of additional attacking talent around him, including Luis Suárez, Rodrigo De Paul and Telasco Segovia.
Inter Miami enters after a 2-2 draw against Atlanta United, with Casemiro and Suárez scoring Miami’s goals.
These teams have already produced one entertaining matchup this season.
Inter Miami defeated Chicago 3-2 in July in the first meeting between the clubs in 2026.
Now the Fire gets another opportunity — this time in Chicago.
Historically, the matchup has been competitive. Entering Wednesday, Miami has four wins, Chicago has five and the teams have played to two draws across their previous 11 meetings.
What to Watch
There should be plenty of attacking talent on display.
Chicago has scored enough to remain among the Eastern Conference contenders, while Miami brings one of the league’s most dangerous attacks to Soldier Field.
The Fire will have to find a way to limit Messi’s influence without giving Miami’s other attacking options additional space.
At the other end, Miami has to deal with a Chicago attack that now includes an in-form Haile-Selassie and a proven world-class finisher in Lewandowski.
And with Chicago riding a six-match unbeaten streak and Miami sitting directly above the Fire in the Eastern Conference standings, this is more than simply a marquee matchup. It’s an opportunity for Chicago to measure itself against one of the teams it’s chasing.
